About Me - Heather

The Neon Pink Swan

I’ve been described more than once as a swan.
Calm on the surface, focused and working hard underneath.

I’m steady under pressure, direct when it matters, and comfortable taking ownership in complex environments. I care about clarity, momentum, and making sure everyone understands what we’re doing — and why.

Give me the messy stuff.
The data.
The half-formed ideas.
The competing priorities.
The “something isn’t quite right, but we can’t put our finger on it.”

I like walking in, taking everything in at once, and pulling it together into something solid. Foundations matter — and if they’re missing, I’ll build them.

That’s my happy place.

A Human Approach to Senior Marketing Leadership

Marketing isn’t a department. It runs through the whole business.

From the person answering the phone to product, sales, and customer teams — everyone shapes the customer experience. They all speak to customers. That makes them part of marketing.

Some of the best insights come from unlikely places. So I ask questions — sometimes to people it might seem unexpected to involve. I’m looking for patterns, gaps, tensions, and what’s sitting just beneath the surface.

That’s why I speak across departments. Not to meddle, but because marketing often sits at the fault line between teams, processes, and communication. When something feels slow, clunky, or misaligned, marketing can usually shorten the distance.

I guide, connect the dots, and bring the puzzle together — often alongside your wider team — so ideas don’t just sound good in theory, but work in practice.

How I Operate Day to Day

What works consistently is simple rhythm and clarity: weekly check-ins with one clear leadership point — often the CEO — where we cover:

  • What’s happened
  • Where we are
  • What’s coming up
  • What I need to move things forward

It’s also a chance for real-time context to be shared — the kind of information that doesn’t always make it into documents, but matters hugely to good decision-making. E.g. Real-time competitor insight — the kind that rarely appears in formal reports.

I hit the ground running and I don’t disappear into strategy decks.
I stay involved, connecting dots across teams and making sure execution follows thinking.

What You’re Hiring

If you hire me, you’re hiring my judgement as well as my experience. I’ll get the job done — and it works best when there’s trust rather than micromanagement.

A few things I care about deeply:

  • Ownership over endless discussion
  • Progress over perfection
  • Autonomy paired with accountability
  • Marketing that supports the business, not distracts from it

I’m pragmatic by nature. I’ll use frameworks where they help, and ignore them where they don’t. The goal is always the same: make marketing useful, credible, and aligned with what the business actually needs.

There’s a difference between having eaten a meal and being a chef.
Everyone consumes marketing. Not everyone knows how to make it work.

What I’m not...

I’m not the right fit if you’re looking for:

  • A hands-off advisor who doesn’t take ownership
  • Long strategy decks with no execution
  • Someone who needs perfect conditions to get started

I work best where there’s trust, honesty, and a shared desire to move forward — even when not everything is fully figured out yet.
